Sevylor Alameda Inflatable Kayak 2016
The Alameda is brand new to 2016, and it’s going down a storm. Based on the incredibly successful Hudson model, the Alameda builds on everything that made the Hudson so popular. So what’s different?
The Alameda features the new 2016 seat design, whereby your seat is suspended from the side chambers rather than touching the floor, and there are numerous benefits to this; firstly you don’t get a wet bum should you take any water on-board! Secondly, you sit much higher up in the kayak, which is comfier and makes reaching over the side chambers much easier on your back. Thirdly, since your seat (and your bum) isn’t touching the floor, you don’t create drag by making an impression in the flooring. This, together with the padded lumbar back rests makes for the most supportive kayak we’ve seen by far.
The same dimensions as the Hudson, the Alameda is the perfect family choice, accommodating for three people, but still a brilliant two-seater for those with longer legs, or even a single-seater with plenty of storage space. However a key benefit to the Alameda is that the seating hooks from which the seats are suspended are approximately 1 inch apart, and run the full length of the kayak – essentially you now have inch-by-inch adjustment on where you position the seats!
Nimble enough to glide through rivers, and robust and stable enough to tackle white water and rapids, the Alameda it’s extremely difficult (near impossible) to flip over, and the raised bow and spray deck makes for good defence against any choppy waves that would otherwise leave you a little wet. Despite its tremendous rigidity and strength, the whole kayak rolls into a neat backpack/drybag, which is more than manageable at just 17kg.
The kayak has handles in the middle, and at each end, so it’s even easier to carry by yourself if paddling alone. Paddles holders on each side mean that you can have some rest without bringing a wet paddle into the kayak. The underneath of the kayak is stronger still with a dual skin made by Decitex®, which is nylon woven through PVC - not only does this mean protection against sharp rocks, shingle beaches and even fishing hooks, it also provides a smooth, waterproof surface to travel over the water.
This Kayak features an attachable skeg and directional strake, which gives it incredible directional stability, just like a hard kayak. The whole kayak rolls up smaller enough to fit into a suitcase, and is under the holidaying weight limit at 17kg! A great choice for the experienced or veteran kayaker wanting some performance, but equally great fun for beginners and families who want the adventure without the roof racks!
